. the real jeep news that day was actually that chrysler announced they were adding 1100 new jobs in the u.s. here making jeeps in detroit. and chrysler says it could hire almost as many people at another plant in warren, michigan. chrysler is investing half a billion in its toledo plant. but mitt romney got up that said defiance, ohio and says they are moving all their jobs. it's embarrassing for mr. romney. why would mitt romney get up in front of 12,000 people in ohio and tell them the auto bailout hasn't helped you at all. your jobs are going to china. i read it somewhere. where's the story? we found it. he was apparently trolling the nether regions of the right-wing press. he found it on a washington examiner blog post, which reported, quote, jeep, an obama favorite, looks to shift production to china. a move that would crash the economy in toledo. this is a misreading of a bloomberg report that was reporting good news. global demand for jeep has risen to the point where they can sell more in china and wants to build jeeps for china in china. this is good news for an american company,
took gm and chrysler into bankruptcy and sold chrysler to italians who are going to build jeeps in china. >> to quote bill clinton, that takes brass. but that ad got four pinocchios from washington post, got pats on fire from politico. so obviously he stopped, right? wrong. he's now buying ohio ads in the ohio city home of the jeep plant. >> now come words that chrysler plans to start making jeeps in, you guessed it, china. what happened to the promises made to autoworkers in toledo and throughout ohio? the same hard working men and went who were told obama's auto bailout would help them? >> today chrysler's ceo sent a letter to employees saying, i feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position. jeep productions will not be moved from the united states to chi china. it is inaccurate to suggest anything different. inaccurate is a kind way of putting it. when corrected time and time again, governor romney has walked away from the truth. he hasn't fibbed, he hasn't mud idea the facts. he lied. and it's a lie he is selling to the people of ohio. it's desperate behavior from a de
chrysler had already announced that actually they were expanding. in ohio and in michigan. they weren't pulling out. mitt romney responded to the instant fact checking not by taking it back but by turning that lie into a new ad for ohio. and then he bought extra air time for it in toledo, where ohio workers make jeeps and where being told falsely that your job's being shipped to china might be personally terrifying news. chrysler tried again to set mr. romney straight on this saying, "jeep production will not be moved from the united states to china." did mr. romney take it back? no. he turned it into another ad, a radio ad, again for ohio. and he expanded it to say the entire auto bailout has been a huge failure. that drew another company into the fact check, gm, which had been saved of course by the auto bailout. a gm spokesman telling the press, "we've clearly entered some parallel universe." also from gm, "at this stage we're looking at hubble telescope-like distances between campaign ads and reality." but here's the thing. it is one thing to lie about your record or even your opp
